Whether you like ‘em loaded, tripled, smoked, pulled or plant-based, the Gold Coast has a burger to kill your cravings. Like I said earlier, the ambiance can’t be beat.To beetroot or not to beetroot, that is the question. Even though I was disappointed in the burger, I would be willing to give Golden Star another shot. A little north of the city, and if you’re travelling by transit, it’s quite a pain in the butt to get to. Maybe their 6oz All-Star burger is better. It wasn’t thick and juicy like I’ve read in other reviews of this restaurant… messy, yes, but that was more from the condiments I selected. I’m not saying it tasted bad, it didn’t… but I didn’t get the impression that it was a homemade burger. It also had somewhat of a “slimey” texture. The patty, although seasoned nicely, was very thin and somewhat reminiscent of processed burgers.

The total for a combo, which includes fries and a small fountain coke came to $10.15. Standard toppings are available, along with caramelized onions. The beef is ground on site, and they have their own homemade BBQ sauce and honey mustard. The regular burger here is comprised of four ounces of fresh beef.
The staff were very friendly, the place was clean, and the big screen TV had the hockey game on. It is important to note this place is cash only. That being said, there is plenty of seating both indoors and on the patio. The decor is similar to that of an old diner and more like something you’d see closer to cottage country than in Toronto. This restaurant has been in business since 1964, and it doesn’t look like much has changed over the years. I’ve heard a lot of hype about this place, and friends I was with kept raving about it.
A little bit out of the way if you don’t have a car. Golden Star Burgers is a nice little joint located north of Steeles on Yonge St.
